I have a complicated relationship with cherry in perfume. One wrong move and it veers into cough-syrup karaoke. Then along comes Maison Tahité with Tonka Rouge, signed by Sébastien Cresp, and the whole mood shifts. This isn’t a sugar-bomb. It’s a slow-blooming, red-lacquered tonka that treats cherry like silk lining rather than center stage.

Tonka can be coy or reckless. Here it chooses a sultry middle lane. The opening teases with a flash of boozy cherry glow, more liqueur than fruit, then folds into that familiar tonka warmth - almond, hay, a soft vanilla hum that reads plush rather than pastry. The texture is tactile, almost fabric-like, the kind of scent that makes you think of deep lipstick and a velvet clutch you do not lend to anyone.

The cherry thread stays present, but it behaves. It loosens its grip as the base deepens, trading fizz for smolder. Think polished woods brushing against cacao dust and a faint, suede-like haze. The result is elegant excess, which is to say it feels a little dangerous yet perfectly put together. If the current cherry wave has left you cold, this might be the antidote - cherry as an accent, not a headline.

On skin, Tonka Rouge reads unisex and after-dark. It wants crisp air and low lights, that sweet spot where warmth meets cool. It is gourmand by temperament, not by dessert cart. The line it walks is the interesting part: enough indulgence for a night out, enough restraint for a power meeting if you go easy on the trigger.

And because 2025 seems determined to keep cherry in our orbit, a quick nod to Cherry Knot - a name that suggests cherry tied tight, a wink to those who like their fruit with attitude. Together, they sketch a mood board for the year ahead: red, addictive, grown-up.

I’ll be wearing Tonka Rouge with red nails chipped just enough to look intentional. The kind of fragrance that makes you stand up straighter, then lean in closer.
