I don’t fall for every holiday release. But when Cire Trudon starts dressing the night in stars, I put on lipstick and pay attention. This year’s quartet arrives in jewel-toned glass, each one a little scene setter for the darker months. No frosting, no gingerbread theatrics, just grown-up moods that understand winter.

Start with Fir in green. It nails the living-tree fantasy even if your spruce is plastic. The opening has that cold snap of conifer, then it deepens with myrrh and a ribbon of incense. Think cathedral air meeting forest floor. It reads elegant, not rustic, and the throw is commanding, the kind that fills a room without shouting. If you crave a classic holiday candle that doesn’t smell like a mall, this is the one.

Libra wears brown and it feels like amber wrapped in cedar and a plush tonka scarf. Cozy, yes, but not sleepy. There’s a polished glow that says library, leather chair, lights low. It’s an amber with posture, less syrupy than many, and it warms beautifully after an hour of burn.

Luna is the blue one, and the most subtle. A veil of rose and peony, then a cool trace of cedarwood and amber underneath, like moonlight on silk. It’s a soft-focus floral that avoids powder and keeps its balance. This is the bedroom candle for people who think they don’t like florals.

Then there’s Nazareth in magenta, the spicy heartbreaker. Citrus sparks at the top, clove unfurls fast, then a musky vanilla settles the edges. It smells like warming your hands over a bowl of pomanders, slightly naughty, very festive. If clove scares you, sample first. If clove seduces you, this is a no-brainer.

Practical notes. The first release is already landing in boutiques, with wider stock to follow, so don’t sleep on your favorite. For me, Fir is non-negotiable, that resinous incense makes the room feel taller. Nazareth is coming out when people arrive, it’s a party trick that actually smells chic. Libra is the after-hours glow. Luna is the whisper when you want the room to exhale.

No glitter, no candy. Just winter, lit properly by Cire Trudon.
