I have a soft spot for tea perfumes, but most behave like well mannered library cards. Chai Chai Chai by Anjali Perfumes is not here to shush anyone, it clatters the cups and cranks the burner. Crafted by artisan perfumer Anjali Vandemark, this 2025 release reads like a love letter to India’s national beverage, written in steam and spice.
First spray and I get heat, the kind that fogs your glasses when the lid comes off the pot. It is cardamom-forward, bright and green, with flecks of pepper and ginger snapping at the edges. There is a tannic black tea effect that actually feels brewed, not decorative, and a warm creaminess that suggests milk folded through the leaves rather than vanilla frosting. I swear I catch a hint of copper pot and street dust, which makes the whole thing hum with life.
As it settles, the tea grows chewier, a little smoky, a little malted. Cinnamon and clove feel present but never sticky. A dusky sweetness peeks in, think brown sugar or jaggery warmth, then drifts into a woody skin glow. The drydown is all comfort with backbone, a soft sweater over a steel spine. Sillage starts lively, then hugs closer, which is perfect for a scent that feels intimate yet bright eyed.
If your idea of tea perfume is a lemon-tinted splash, this might startle you. If you crave the clatter of cups, the hiss of milk, the thrum of spice in real masala chai, you will grin. It wears beautifully in cool weather, but that spice-laced creaminess will sing in humid evenings too, like monsoon air meeting hot kettle.
What stood out to me:
Anjali Perfumes Chai Chai Chai is not background scenting. It is a pulse, a rhythm, a little stain of tea on the lip you wear proudly. I will be reaching for it when the day needs warmth that is real, not syrupy, and a dash of grit that reads like a grin.
