Do we really need another flanker? If it is DS & Durga messing with Debaser, yes, I am absolutely listening. The 2015 original carved a fig-shaped groove into indie perfume culture, all sap and summer light, the kind of scent that makes your white T-shirt feel like a statement. Now comes Debaser in Bloom, a name that practically telegraphs a petal-forward reroute of a modern classic.
No official note list as I write this, which I find delicious. “In Bloom” is a promise, or a dare. It suggests the fig canopy opening to let blossoms in, a little more sway, a little less cool detachment. If the original wore like green sun on skin, I expect this one to tilt pink and silver, soft edges without losing that sly freshness that made Debaser such a no-brainer for hot days and loud moods.
What I will be sniffing for:
Trend-wise, it tracks. Spring-floral spins on green icons are everywhere, but DS & Durga rarely plays it safe, so I am not expecting cotton-candy petals. This should read like a balcony garden over a record store. Pretty, yes. Still a little subversive.
Who needs Debaser in Bloom:
I will update once I’ve worn it on a humid commute and a night train, because that is where fig proves itself. For now, file Debaser in Bloom under watch list, not just another pretty flanker. It sounds like a chorus you already know, sung an octave higher, with fresh petals pinned to the mic.
