It’s one of those Tuesdays that smells like everything at once. International Day of Acceptance. Cheese Lovers Day. Penguin Awareness Day. I poured hot coffee, queued a bluesy Lead Belly track, glanced at a moody David Lynch still, and reached for a bottle that felt like silk gloves in a cold theater: Valentino Donna.
I wanted the quiet ceremony of it. A powdered rose and iris duet, tailored and feminine without apology, stitched to a soft leather seam and a creamy vanilla trail. This isn’t a shouty “look at me” floral; it’s the woman who doesn’t need to. Today it’s my wrist-bound tribute to Valentino Garavani, whose eye taught so many of us what elegance can look like when it moves.
Northern Hemisphere friends are counting 59 more days until spring. That’s two months of gray to push back, so consider fruit with bite. On 1/23, I’ll be leaning into pomegranate. If you have one, line it up. If you don’t, here are a few that actually earn the shelf space:
I love pomegranate because it refuses the usual fruit script. It’s tart, a little aloof, with a gemstone crunch that makes florals stand straighter and woods taste fresher. If penguins wore perfume, I like to think they’d pick something that slices through the cold with a ruby grin.
For anyone eyeing a winter rotation refresh, you could do far worse than a bottle of Valentino Donna for polish and a pomegranate number for play. Two moods, one makeup bag. Acceptance, celebrated. Cheese, optional.
