I love a good contradiction. It’s Christian Dior’s birthday and also International Sweatpants Day, which is exactly the kind of fashion heresy I live for. I’m typing in a grey hoodie with a soft halo of Diorissimo around me, and it feels like lily of the valley snuck out of a couture salon to crash a couch day.
Diorissimo isn’t loud. It’s a clean, optimistic lily of the valley fantasy by Edmond Roudnitska that cuts through winter like a bell. If you think perfume only suits heels and red lipstick, try it with fleece and a messy bun. It turns an ordinary Wednesday into a plot twist.
Dior’s universe is basically a mood board for several decades of taste. Miss Dior is the whip-smart classic that still talks back. J’Adore is a solar bouquet that knows its angles. Eau Sauvage is bitter citrus and herbs, sharper than a well-made blazer. And Bois d’Argent is that cool iris-labdanum aura that behaves like good lighting for your skin. You don’t need all of them, but knowing how they feel on you is a small education.
Mini challenge for 1/23: wear a fragrance with a pomegranate note. It’s tart, ruby bright, and more textural than people give it credit for. If your tray is light on garnet fruits, try these:
Perfume is performance art for one, and that’s the fun. On Dior’s birthday, I’m choosing comfort and lilies, not a runway. Some days need velvet drapes. Today needs Diorissimo over sweatpants and a second espresso. If elegance lives anywhere, it lives in that decision.
