I’m not easily hypnotized by crystal-studded flacons, but Guerlain just trotted out Rouge Bonheur for the Year of the Horse and I had to look twice. Parisian jeweler Atelier Truscelli saddles the 125 ml bottle in 24 karat plating with 79 Swarovski crystals, limited to 1786 pieces. There’s also a pre-filled 30 ml travel spray tucked in, which reads like a wink to actual wearers, not just glass-case collectors. Truscelli also dressed the previous two Lunar New Year editions, so the lineage tracks.

Here’s the part that matters on skin. Rouge Bonheur opens with a pepper and ginger snap that feels bright and almost fizzy, the kind of spice that wakes the senses without setting anything on fire. The heart leans into rose and magnolia. Think petal-smooth and gently dewy rather than jammy or heady, which keeps things polished and modern. The drydown settles into cedar and white musk, a clean-woody hum that gives the florals backbone and a slightly cashmere finish.

If you’re expecting a loud celebratory blast, this is not that. It is a confident spicy-floral with an elegant woody-musk frame, office-friendly by day and quietly magnetic by night. On my wrist the ginger sticks around longer than expected, threading through the rose in a way that feels sleek rather than sweet. It’s the kind of structure that flatters a crisp shirt and a red lip without trying too hard.

About that bottle. 79 crystals will divide the room, and I get it. But the workmanship from Atelier Truscelli is tight and the Year of the Horse motif avoids kitsch. If you collect Lunar editions, this one continues the house’s recent run with a clear visual language. If you don’t, the included 30 ml travel spray makes this less of a museum piece and more of a daily rider.

Bottom line: the bling grabs headlines, yet the juice holds its own. Rouge Bonheur is a well-mannered spice and floral composition that wears beautifully, no fireworks necessary. If your heart says collector and your nose says wearable, this hits both.
