Back to Home
I don’t do gentle in January. The radiator rattles, the sky sulks, and my perfume needs to bite back. Today I’m wrapped in Maison Francis Kurkdjian Grand Soir, that glowing benzoin-labdanum amber that feels like lacquered honey on leather gloves. It is unapologetically plush, the olfactory equivalent of choosing velvet over fleece.
The last thing I tried then tucked away for different weather was Hermès Un Jardin à Cythère. I love its dry citron-peel brightness and that sun-faded straw nuance, but behind a scarf it turns whispered and wan. I’m saving it for a day when pavements look more like Greece than grayscale.
Cold snap re-trials on my desk:
Mild provocation while you sip your coffee: stop saving vanilla for date night. January needs backbone. Reach for Diptyque Eau Duelle Eau de Parfum if you crave a dry, peppered vanilla that never turns custard, or Dior Vanilla Diorama when you want orange zest and cocoa nibs to keep things chic rather than sticky.
My experiment this weekend is texture dueling. Patchouli silk vs. gourmand velvet:
For quieter hours, Le Labo Thé Matcha 26 is my library voice, all meditative tea and soft woods. When I want compliments without trying, I admit I reach for DS & Durga Pistachio. It is weird-in-a-good-way, like a satin bomber jacket over vintage denim.
What will I sniff first in 2026? No resolutions, just ruthless curiosity. I’ll be stalking early counter refreshes from Dior and Guerlain, hunting iris with spine and vanilla with salt, and applying my three-spray rule so the truth shows up fast. Until then, raise your mugs and your sillage. January plays rough. Your perfume should too.
