Let’s talk about the audacity of dessert. Moschino is dropping two new flankers to its glossy 2018 crowd-pleaser Toy 2. Meet Toy 2 Gummy and Toy 2 Yummy. I read those names and immediately pictured gummy bears sneaking into a vanity drawer. I also rolled my eyes a little. Then I smiled. This is Moschino after all. Subtlety was never the dress code.
A quick rewind. The original Moschino Toy in 2014 put fragrance inside a teddy that made niche lovers clutch their pearls and teenagers hit Add to Cart. Toy 2 in 2018 cleaned up the mischief with that transparent glass bear bottle that said perfume can be playful and still sit pretty next to your Byredos. Now we’ve got Toy 2 Gummy and Toy 2 Yummy, and the names do the heavy lifting. Gummy hints at chewy-fruity fun. Yummy promises straight-up gourmand pleasure. No need to read a press release to get the vibe.
Do we need more candy in perfumery? Honestly, yes and no. The market is drowning in sugar, but there’s a reason the sweet stuff sells. It’s wearable, it’s flirty, and it pulls compliments from across a room. If Toy 2 Gummy leans into a juicy, elastic fruit accord and Toy 2 Yummy tips toward creamy dessert territory, they’ll slot neatly into that daytime-to-date-night lane without pretending to be anything else.
What I’m watching for:
Flankers get a bad rap, but Moschino has a talent for cheek that actually reads on skin. If you already wear Toy 2, these newcomers could layer well for extra shine. If you skipped it, Toy 2 Gummy and Toy 2 Yummy might be the playful detour that brings you back to the brand. I’m ready for a grown-up sugar high that doesn’t stick to the furniture.
