I went in braced for glitter and gimmicks. What I got at the International Maisons Of Fine Fragrance in London was restraint with a pulse. Three days at the Frieze gallery - February 18-20, 2026 - and the air felt charged, not with influencer flash, but with that low hum you get when a scene finally realizes it doesn’t need to shout.

First impressions: the curation was tight. No red-carpet chaos, no sugar-high launches designed for a 10-second reel. The rooms were paced like a boutique you want to get lost in, and the conversations sounded like people who actually wear their perfume longer than a meeting. It’s the first edition of this niche fragrance exhibition, and it already knew its lane.

If you think “niche” has become a tired marketing costume, this gathering pushed back. The tone was intelligent and quietly provocative - more skin and sillage than storyboards. I caught myself leaning in, noting how people smelled leaving the space rather than how displays looked. That’s the tell. The focus never drifted far from the juice and the people wearing it.

London needed this. Not another mega fair, but a thoughtful, London-specific read on fine fragrance - gallery bones, pared-back light, ideas landing in the nose first, the brain second. The decision to anchor it at the Frieze gallery made the point without fanfare: fragrance as culture, not just commerce.

What lingered for me: a return to texture over tropes, to the physicality of materials, to pacing that honors drydowns. The most compelling moments weren’t announcements, they were the silence after someone said, “Smell this again.” No theatrics, just proof that precision can be seductive.

The inaugural International Maisons Of Fine Fragrance didn’t try to be everything. It chose clarity. In a market high on storytelling sugar, this felt like protein. I left with my scarf quietly perfumed and my expectations reset, which might be the most honest souvenir any exhibition can give.
