Back to Home
I woke up with paint on the brain and powder on the pulse. It’s Friday, it’s National Pickle Day and World Diabetes Day, and I’m scenting my morning like a canvas by Claude Monet. The mood is Impressionism in fragrance form: translucency over density, movement over bombast, light passing over skin instead of shouting from it.
On my wrist right now is Honoré des Prés I Love Les Carottes. Hear me out. Carrot seed and buttery iris can feel like sketching in graphite before the oils arrive, a whisper of earth and root that lets light do the heavy lifting. It’s tender, a little odd, and perfectly in step with the Impressionist craving for fleeting moments.
If you want water lilies without the sugar, reach for Guerlain Après L’Ondée. It’s mist after rain, violet-iris haze, a soft-focus lens that blurs edges in the most graceful way. For twilight over the Seine, Guerlain L’Heure Bleue paints the sky in heliotrope and anise, a melancholic blue hour that breathes rather than booms.
Green-thumbed minimalists, your Giverny is Chanel No.19. Galbanum snaps like a stem between fingers, while iris keeps it cool and glassy. For a more pared-back iris study, Hermès Hiris is all pale silk and clean lines. Want the iris to bite a little harder, to tilt the angle like a surprise crop in a plein air sketch? Serge Lutens Iris Silver Mist is your frosted knife edge.
For movement and bright angles, Hermès Un Jardin sur le Nil ripples with green mango and riverbank rush, and Diptyque Eau des Sens turns orange blossom inside out so the peel, petal, and wood move in and out of frame like shifting light. Monet’s pond needs lilies too: try Cartier Baiser Volé for crisp, dewy lily without the saccharine drip.
If National Pickle Day tempts you toward brine, detour briefly with seawashed sparkle like Heeley Sel Marin or Maison Margiela Replica Sailing Day. Salty air over skin can be as Impressionist as any iris when it plays with transparency and motion.
One last nudge for the calendar lovers: on 11/21, pull a favorite vintage from the shelf. A day for patina and time travel. I’m eyeing my older Miss Dior, its moss and bite a reminder that even the softest light needs structure.
