I’ll say it: a breakup can be seductive. Word on the beauty street is that Coty may be prepping a split, and my DMs lit up faster than a duty-free tester strip. If this lands, it won’t be a quiet paperwork shuffle. It could redraw the map for some of the most-worn scents on the planet.
Coty already lives in two worlds. Prestige on one side, mass-market on the other. A formal split could sharpen that divide. Think of the prestige stable that includes Calvin Klein, Gucci, Marc Jacobs, Hugo Boss, and Chloé fragrances. On your shelf that looks like CK One, Calvin Klein Eternity, Gucci Bloom, Gucci Guilty, Marc Jacobs Daisy, Hugo Boss Bottled, Chloé Signature, and even Tiffany & Co. Eau de Parfum.
What I’m hearing from retailers and sales reps I trust:
Personal note. I spritzed Daisy this morning and it hit me how much these big portfolios shape our daily texture. Your office smells like Boss Bottled for a reason. Your first date memory might be CK One. A corporate split sounds abstract, but it touches wrists and wardrobes.
What I hope to see:
This isn’t doomsday. It’s a pivot, and pivots can free brands to focus. But if you’re loyal to a signature, watch batch codes this year, compare testers, and trust your nose. The boardroom can move mountains. Your vanity will feel the tremor.
