If you’ve ever wished oud would stop acting like a shouty bassline and learn how to whisper, Dawn Spencer Hurwitz just sent a coy invitation. DSH Perfumes Peacock Blue is built around blue lotus and six, yes six, different ouds. That number is either madness or mastery, and knowing Hurwitz’s track record with texture and balance, I’m betting on mastery.

Blue lotus is the kind of note that refuses to sit in one box. It can feel airy and aqueous, then turn suddenly shadowy and narcotic. Put that mercurial floral against a chorus of ouds and you get an elegant tug of war, vaporous bloom versus resinous hum. The promise here is contrast with intent, not shock for shock’s sake.

I keep picturing the color story. The deep ink of oud, the cool glow of lotus, a peacock’s neck in twilight. If the perfumer leans into the lotus luminosity, Peacock Blue could be a rare bird in the oud menagerie, more silk and lacquer than barn and smoke. If she lets the ouds flex, expect velvet depth, a honeyed wobble, maybe a suede-soft shadow that lingers on skin for hours.

What excites me most is the idea of six uniquely different ouds treated like an orchestra rather than a sledgehammer. Variety matters. Oud can read medicinal, leathery, fruity, balsamic, even tea-like, depending on extraction and origin. A sextet suggests dynamics, movement, character arcs. Lotus could be the light that moves across that surface.

There’s also a nod in the air to Majestic Oud, which tells me 2025 will not be shy about this material. If Peacock Blue carries the conversation forward, it will do so by refusing the tired agarwood caricatures and leaning into nuance.

Who will love it. If the phrase blue floral, midnight wood makes your pulse pick up, this is your lane. If you crave projection at all costs, wait and test, because I suspect this one will seduce at close range, not storm the room.

File DSH Perfumes Peacock Blue under perfumes I’m watching closely. A lotus, six ouds, and a perfumer who understands restraint, that is a triangle I want on my skin.
